CMRM PRESS STATEMENT
Mawlid al-Nabi Bomb Attack: An Act of Shameless Barbarism
21 November 2018
It is with great shock and sadness that the Claremont Main Road Masjid (CMRM) has learnt of Tuesday night’s bomb attack on a religious gathering in Kabul, Afghanistan, that left at least 50 dead and up to 70 wounded.
The attack, by a suicide bomber, was targeted at a Mawlid al-Nabi gathering marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
While no-one has explicitly claimed responsibility, it is accepted that this was not an attack by “foreigners” or “non-believers” on Muslims in Afghanistan, but an attack by Muslims against fellow Muslims and compatriots.
CMRM strongly condemns this shameless barbarism, which is all the more heinous in this season of Mawlid al-Nabi when Muslims all over the world rededicate ourselves to emulate the noble example of the Prophet of Mercy and Compassion.
Sadly, this atrocity once again reveals the deep-seated hatred that consumes those who perpetuate such wanton violence. It reflects their complete disregard for the sanctity and sacredness of human life, including that of their fellow Muslims and compatriots.
At this time of celebration which has been marred by sadness, CMRM prayers for the healing of the Muslim Ummah from such callous disregard for human life, hatred and ugliness masquerading as Islam. We recommit ourselves to embracing and propagating compassionate justice as the central and core message of Islam.
We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victims, and pray that Allah forgives and has mercy on the souls of those killed and admits them into a high place in Jannah.
