CMRM Mourns the Passing of Pastor Daniel Swartz

04 September 2020

The Claremont Main Road Mosque salutes the life and memory of Pastor Daniel Swartz and deeply mourns his sudden loss.

CMRM came to know Pastor Daniel through the Cape Flats Inter-faith Initiative. Pastor Daniel,  together with his colleague in the Service and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (SAWUSA), the late Mr Wilfred Alcock who passed away in January 2020, were the driving forces in bringing together faith leaders from the Cape Flats to respond to the pressing realities of gang violence and poverty.

With his magnanimous smile and deep commitment towards to the poor and the working class, Pastor Daniel did great service to his community and country. He helped to galvanise faith leaders to stand up and amplify the voices of the poor. He was in the forefront of ensuring that the voices of the oppressed, the persecuted and the downtrodden on the Cape Flats were neither forgotten nor neglected.

We are indebted to the courageous spirit and commitment of Pastor Daniel, who was among those who facilitated CMRM’s involvement in the Cape Flats Initiative.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children and extended family. We also extend deep condolences to his colleagues in SAWUSA who are now facing a double loss in their leadership. We trust that you will keep his spirit and memory alive by continuing with the great works and service your union initiated in 2019.

CMRM prays for his family, that they may be well comforted and supported through this difficult time. We pray that the Lord extends much needed peace and contentment to his family and colleagues during this sad time.

From God we come and to him is our Ultimate return.

Hamba Khale Pastor Daniel Swartz.
