On Saturday 2 July 2016, the Claremont Main Road Masjid (CMRM) distributed 400 `Id food hampers and blankets to needy families at its twin masjid in Dunoon. The programme is one of the key activities of CMRM’s Jihad Against Poverty campaign. Chairpersons of the Dunoon area committees had identified the needy recipients. As part of the programme 100 Dunoon children were also given small gifts. The distribution was preceded by a brief programme inside the masjid at which the Dunoon local councilor, Mr. Makaleni addressed the congregation. CMRM members were well represented and ably assisted vice-chairperson, Boeta Achmat Peters in coordinating the distribution programme. Shamil da Costa represented his father, Shaykh Yusuf da Costa, head of the Naqshbandi tariqa who established the Dunoon masjid. This is the fourth year in succession that CMRM has hosted an `Id al-Fitr food hamper distribution in Dunoon. It is also the second year that a leadership-training programme at the Dunoon masjid, facilitated by the Institute for the Healing of Memories, preceded the distribution programme. CMRM wishes to sincerely thank all of its generous donors and members who made the programme such a big success.
